Objective: To understand how the national rankings of smart and sustainable cities—Connected Smart Cities (CSC) and the Sustainable Development Index of Cities - Brazil (IDSC-BR) can support the strengthening of the Local Innovation Ecosystem in the municipality of Guarapuava, in the state of Paraná.
Originality/Value: The study discusses the role of indicators as strategic tools for identifying bottlenecks, potential, and opportunities for collaborative action among local stakeholders.
Methods: Using a qualitative and descriptive approach, the research was developed through document and content analysis, using the most recent editions of the CSC and IDSC-BR rankings.
Results: Guarapuava has an average performance in terms of sustainable development and is not among the top 100 cities in the CSC ranking, and the analysis of the two systems simultaneously highlights weaknesses in some areas, but also reveals potential for improvement.
Conclusions: The rankings can serve as strategic input for local governance, especially for the Guarapuava Science, Technology, and Innovation Forum, by guiding evidence-based decisions, promoting the engagement of ecosystem stakeholders, and contributing to sustainable and innovative urban planning.
