Objective of the study: Define the degree of maturity of a multinational company producing sugar cane derivatives using the guidelines of the Industrie 4.0 Readiness Model - VDMA.
Methodology/approach: The method adopted for research was the case study due to its ability to investigate a phenomenon contextually, and was used as a means of applying a questionnaire answered by managers from the production, IT and finance areas. The data was evaluated in the VDMA system itself and in Excel in order to define the six dimensions of the model for the company.
Originality/Relevance: The study is relevant for demonstrating the use of the Industrie 4.0 Readiness Model – VDMA through adaptations to the reality of Brazilian industry, serving as a reference for future research and for other industries to assess their level of maturity with the proposed methodology.
Main results: The company under study was categorized as level 3 in the global assessment. It stood out in the six dimensions evaluated with Employees (level 4), Smart Operations and Products (both level 3), Strategy and organization and Smart Factory (both level 2), and Data-driven Services (level 1).
Theoretical contributions: Adaptation of the model to the reality of Brazilian industries. It is worth mentioning that the German model has been validated and is being used by several industries globally.
Contributions to management: It is strategically advantageous for the industry evaluated, being able to focus on dimensions with lower scores, such as data-driven services (level 3). This study can serve as a standard for other companies in the sector.
