Factors of readiness and dynamic capabilities for sustainability-oriented innovations

Abstract

Objective: Investigate whether a company that operate in inter-organizational networks is prepared for the development of Dynamic Capabilities (DCs) that contribute to the development of Sustainability-Oriented Innovation activities.

Method: This paper employs the single-case study method with a qualitative approach in a company that operates in the agribusiness sector. The main data collection instrument was the semi-structured interview with managers. For data analysis, the content analysis technique was used.

Originality/value: The research integrates the concepts of DCs, inter-organizational networks and SOI activities (operational optimization, organizational transformation and systems building).

Results: It was evidenced that the readiness factors “interorganizational relationships” and “technologies for SOI”, associated respectively to the collaboration capability and technological capability, are the most influential in the activities of operational optimization, organizational transformation and systems construction.

Contributions/Implications: The research proposes to new perspectives for the analysis of SOI activities and identifies factors and DCs that can be leveraged by other companies that are interested in improving their collaborative relationships and innovations with a focus on sustainability.
